There’s no denying it. We’re sporting a pretty major girl crush on Ellie Goulding. 1. She’s a total babe. 2. She’s super talented (she also performed at the Royal Wedding, you know) 3. She’s a runner. Which may not seem like such an impressive feat on its own, but for someone who spends the majority of her time on planes and buses, in hotel rooms, and on stages, it’s pretty remarkable that the English rose manages to stay so focused on the road.
Today Goulding ran the the Nike Women Half Marathon in D.C., which, for 9 years has been raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She told Vogue that she’s been running since she was 18.
“It doesn’t sound believable but I woke up one morning in a friend’s flat and felt the urge. I had never really been a sporty child or teenager, but when we had the odd cross country run at school, I would either win or come second, so I guess I always had some sort of flair for it.”
Goulding also divulged her playlist, and even admits that she needs to listen to some of her own music for perspective.
“I listen to everything from classical to heavy dubstep, mainly just to feel like I’m with another presence. I prefer running alone so music keeps me alert and energized. I definitely listen to remixes of my own songs and early mixes of things, because running gives me a kind of clarity nothing else does. It makes me notice things I want to change in my music.”
On getting involved in the marathon, Goulding seems pretty empowered by running with the other women, even in the midst of her crazy schedule.
“I run so much by myself that I decided it was time to team together with my fellow runners and kick ass! I guess I just want to heighten awareness of keeping fit even when you’re mega busy and complete my fourth half marathon among other amazing women.”
